Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until smooth.
Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until well blended.
Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the wet mixture.
Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto ungreased cookie sheets.
Flatten each ball with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until golden.
Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks.
Decorate with icing or colored sugar if desired.
