Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can 15 oz tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs parsley or dill for garnish

Instructions

  • Remove the core from the cabbage and boil the whole head for 5-10 minutes until the leaves soften.
  • Carefully peel off the leaves and set them aside to cool.
  • In a skillet, sauté the onion and garlic until translucent.
  • In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, cooked rice, sautéed onion and garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  • Place about 2 tablespoons of the filling onto each cabbage leaf.
  • Fold the sides of the leaf over the filling and roll tightly from the stem end.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.
  • Arrange the stuffed cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish.
  • Top with remaining tomato sauce, cover with foil, and bake for 45 minutes.
