Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet 2 ¼ tsp instant yeast
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 1 egg optional, for egg wash

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  • Add melted butter and salt to the yeast mixture.
  • Gradually stir in flour, one cup at a time, until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased bread pan.
  • Cover and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  • If desired, brush the top with beaten egg for a golden crust.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
