In a large bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
Add melted butter and salt to the yeast mixture.
Gradually stir in flour, one cup at a time, until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased bread pan.
Cover and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
If desired, brush the top with beaten egg for a golden crust.
Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
