Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • Coarse sea salt for topping

Instructions

  • In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until it bubbles.
  • Add salt and flour gradually, mixing until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and roll each into a long rope.
  • Shape each rope into a pretzel by twisting the ends together.
  • Prepare a baking soda bath by boiling 4 cups of water with 1/4 cup of baking soda.
  • Dip each pretzel in the baking soda bath for 30 seconds, then place on the baking sheet.
  • Sprinkle with coarse sea salt and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
