Measure 1/2 cup of popcorn kernels.
Heat 2-3 tablespoons of oil in a large pot over medium heat.
Add a few kernels to the pot and cover it to check if the oil is hot enough.
Once the test kernels pop, add the rest of the popcorn kernels.
Cover the pot with a lid, leaving it slightly ajar for steam to escape.
Shake the pot gently to prevent burning.
Remove from heat when the popping slows down.
Transfer the popcorn to a large bowl.
Drizzle with melted butter and sprinkle with salt or seasonings.
