Measure the oats and liquid.
In a saucepan, combine oats, water/milk, and salt.
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.
Reduce heat to low and simmer for about 5 minutes.
Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
Once the oats have absorbed the liquid, remove from heat.
Add sweetener, if desired, and mix well.
Let the oatmeal sit for a minute to thicken.
Serve hot in bowls.
Top with fresh fruits, nuts, and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
