In a medium saucepan, combine water and sugar, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
Add the cranberries to the saucepan.
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.
Reduce heat to a simmer and cook for about 10 minutes, until the cranberries burst.
Add the orange juice, zest, cinnamon, and salt to the pot.
Stir well to combine all ingredients.
Continue to simmer for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
Transfer the sauce to a bowl and refrigerate until ready to serve.
