Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon honey optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture.
  • Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk and honey (if using).
  • Mix gently until just combined; do not overwork the dough.
  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently for about 30 seconds.
  • Pat the dough to about 1-inch thickness.
  • Use a biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits and place them on a baking sheet.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
