Ingredients

  • 1 package of filo dough 16 oz
  • 2 cups chopped nuts walnuts, pistachios, or almonds
  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
  • In a bowl, mix the chopped nuts and ground cinnamon.
  • Lay one sheet of filo dough in the dish and brush with melted butter.
  • Repeat with 7 more sheets, brushing each with butter.
  • Sprinkle a thin layer of the nut mixture over the dough.
  • Layer two more sheets of filo, again brushing with butter.
  • Repeat the nut layer process until all nuts are used.
  • Top with remaining filo sheets, brushing each with butter.
  • Cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes, and bake for about 45 minutes until golden brown.
