Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 packet 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1⅔ cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon honey for boiling
  • Toppings: sesame seeds poppy seeds, everything bagel seasoning

Instructions

  • Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let sit for 5 minutes.
  • Combine flour and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  • Pour the yeast mixture into the flour mixture and stir until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces.
  • Shape each piece into a ball, then poke a hole in the center to form a ring.
  • Boil water in a large pot, adding honey to the water.
  • Boil each bagel for about 1 minute on each side, then place on a baking sheet.
  • Sprinkle toppings on the wet bagels before baking.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
